An Auckland woman says it is about time women felt comfortable enough with their bodies to go topless on public beaches, launching a Facebook facampaign to encourage women to bare their breasts. Shannon Claire says male toplessness being okay, but female toplessness not, is a double standard. Ms Claire says it’s time for us to follow European beaches into the light.
The 31-year-old has been sunbathing topless since she was 14-years-old. She says she is totally comfortable with her body, but this summer, Ms Claire has been copping flak from others who are not. Instead of covering up, she has decided to take a stand, by starting a campaign for women to join her topless revolution. But Family First New Zealand says there is no place for topless sunbathing on public beaches, and that it should be banned.
